I have always found the 13th falling on a Friday to be interesting. It happens at least once a year and can happen as often as three times in the same year. (This year there are two and next year there will be two also.) The unlucky nature of the number 13 dates back to Norse mythology when the trickster god Loki was not invited to a dinner party and took out his feelings in the way of causing one of the gods to shoot another.
It seems that the superstition relates to both the number 13 and the day of the week both being unlucky. And, let's not forget the term triskaidekaphobia, which is the fear of the number 13. Friday fears phobias can be chosen between paraskevidekatriaphobia and, friggatriskaidekaphobia which is based on the word 'Frigg' the Norse goddess that Friday was named after in English.
.
The publication in 1907 of T.W. Lawson's popular novel, Friday, the Thirteenth may have contributed to the superstition. This is the story of a stockbroker who picks this day to bring down the stock market.
I found some interesting facts about this day that I wanted to share. Here is a list:
* In Spanish and Greek culture Tuesday, the thirteenth instead of Friday is considered unlucky.
* Alfred Hitchcock was born on August 13, 1899.
* The Hollywood sign was erected on Friday, July 13, 1923, as a promotional tool for a new housing development. The sign originally was Hollywoodland which was the name of the development. After the sign went into disrepair the city decided to take off the 'land' and just maintain the nine that can be seen to this day on the hills above Los Angeles.
* In heavy metal music lore it is said that heavy metal was born on Friday, February 13, 1970, with the UK release of Black Sabbath's debut album.
* In French Lick, Indiana around the 30s and 40s the town decreed that all black cats were to wear a bell around their necks every Friday the 13th.
Happy Friday the 13th

Interesting. And then there's the theory that there were 13 people around the table for the Last Supper and the betrayal of Jesus by Judas. Have a good weekend.

Yes, I didn't want to add that. I don't believe and don't want to write about it so I left that one out.

Thanks for sharing interesting facts on Friday the 13th. I was not aware of the existence of terms associated with phobias mentioned here. And the other facts were interesting as well. Found them interesting especially on the one regarding Hollywood. I also never knew that 13th and Friday coincides atleast once every year and more . Yesterday , Friday the 13th was ok for me personally. It was a not a great day yet it was ok in some respects and no ok in others. It was not absolutely worse or bad days. Well, hope you had a great friday as well. Enjoy the weekend!
