The Truth About Swearing

Do you see this thing about swearing like I do? When, on those very rare occasions, we get so very frustrated and mad in a given situation that we go bonkers for a few moments and swear like sailors. Do you ever notice that there just are not enough swear words to fully express your pain, frustration or whatever in the moment? And so you find yourself repeating all your favorites over and over. Do you ever find this to be true?

I swear more often than what is probably considered lady-like. But I also have worked with men the majority of my life. In hardware and furniture stores. At truck terminals, in tackle shops and then in the construction field.

My ex would come home swearing like a sailor and I would have to say something. Kids don't need to hear it and I didn't care for the 'f' word every other word either.

@celticeagle Kids don't care. It's the parents that care. Kids are smart enough to learn what words they can and can't use or should or shouldn't use.

Yeah, I often find myself using the F-bomb quite often because when I'm driven to that point, that's the closest discripter of how I feel.

Nothing wrong with swear words, if you using it to demean people then very wrong. Purpose for everything.

Cussing is one habit I am trying to break when I get angry with a sporting event or entertainment show.

I try to curb it as much as possible. It's when I reach the end of my tether that it will happen.

I don't care for it. My grandson does with his friends online but will usually cut them when around us.

Hey, I WAS a sailor and I don’t swear! I like being “creative” with my cussing.

I can believe it. I don't get mad that often but I can use some good ones when I am at the end of my rope.

Actually I have no one to swear at now, Occasionally if I do something I do not like I will say a few choice words to myself, I however cannot stand any movies or shows where swearing is the main item on the menu,

I do the same. I'd rather others didn't hear me.I dislike shows with so much swearing unless it is to show characterization.

@celticeagle there are other ways to characterize satire and comedy remember All in the Family and Maude are great shows and you could expect some swearing but it was not necessary

In our language we do have swears when we are in pain. I can't call them swears but groans.

I am awful when I am driving. And I am usually never in much of a rush, afterall, I am only 1 vehicle on the roads which carry so many others. But if I am behind someone and they are slow to move into an intersection that awful word a$$hole comes roaring out of my mouth. I think that if they can hear me at the other end of our vehicle's navigation system, they must be laughing and rolling their eyes saying, she's back on the road today. Someone turned, incorrectly left, in front of me in a parking lot yesterday, and that word came out, there was a guy in a big 4-wheel drive truck behind him, who saw it, and then he looked at me and waved me to turn as my signal light was on.

I think that for me it snowballs. I begin having a bad day and things keep going wrong and I end up saying a few choice words out of frustration.

I don't often swear, I save it for REALLY frustrating occasions. When things just go a bit wrong I stick with 'Bother!'

I do the same for the most part. I liked the one Samantha on Bewitch always used. "My stars!"
