After a long time, a scammer reached out to me

I have been busy with my tasks and activities and looking to complete them before deadline. While I was working through things, I see an incoming call from an unknown US number. Before I could answer, it stopped ringing. When I looked at the number, it seemed from Miami and I do not have any friends from Florida. I was largely sceptical. After 3 hours, again, I see the incoming call and it is same unknown number .This time I answered it. On the other side, a person claimed he is working for a cryptocurrency exchange and would like to offer services to me. Since he has seen my finances (I have no clue what he meant by seeing my finance, I do have debt!), he is giving his services for free. He would like me to invest $5000 into the exchange and in a month’s time the ROI should be 120%. Meanwhile I check online about the crypto exchange and see reports of imposters impersonating officials from the mentioned cryptocurrency exchange. He would change his narrative slightly for the next set of questions. Finally, I stated I will visit the office of crypto exchange and then talk about things in person and then he disconnected the call. I wanted to see how long he would go with the shenanigan, but I could not devote much into it as I was working on something which had a deadline. Guess , scammers are coming with new unique ways to lure and scam people

It's not new, they just update the same tired old script to go with today's market trend. A lot of people invest in crypto or use it as a form of international curency. So, of course a scammer is going to try to cash in on it and gget someone to agree. And, they know what they are saying isn't real or possible.

@RevivedWarrior Some scammers aren't counting on their preay to get smarter. They work in high volume knowing that they'll net a few fish. I'm just glad you weren't one of them.

Atleast , the scammer should be potraying something that is believable. Well, guess I am lucky to figure it out at the beginning itself. Thanks for sharing!

Apparently there are ways to fake a call from another country, so that person might not even be from Miami. But I would have thought he was a spammer at best, and a scammer at worst. I rarely answer calls from unknown numbers. When I started receiving international calls I even tried to block the whole country, but I'm not sure it worked.

I also believe this person is not from the US as his accent did not sound anything American. Should be careful attending international numbers for sure. Thanks for sharing!

@RevivedWarrior No problem, thank you for sharing. It was interesting yet sad to know crypto scams now take place via phone calls too. I've mostly heard of these scams happening on YouTube, where they fake a live stream with Elon Musk or whoever. Sick stuff.

Good to know you detected it early. They are really so bad, and have no heart actually.
