I May Switch Back to 10 Gauge Strings

I have a bit of a hard attack when I play guitar. Granted, playing is also expressive mostly, as any guitar player will tell you, and how hard or soft you play notes depends on what you are expressing, the same as much in the way we speak. We don't speak in monotone. We emphasize certain words or deemphasize them. The story is in how we express the notes. That being said, I have been using 9-gauge strings for a long time on my electric, and I tend to break strings often. Mostly the low E, high E and A. The low E and A are probably victims of a bit of overzealous playing of power chords with emphasis on heavy bass lines. I like them for their ease of bending strings. But I don't like breaking strings as often as I do, probably at least once or twice a month. So, I am considering going back to tens, or I might try a hybrid pack of strings that has 10s on the bottom and 9s on the top. That would allow for a higher attack on the bass without compromising the bends on the treble. My preferred brand is Ernie Ball.

I use 10-gauge strings on my air guitar. They usually last me a long time before I break one. I'm more apt to break a drumstick when air drumming in my truck on the way to work.

@porwest The beautiful thing about my air guitar is that I don't break strings that often! LOL

I have never used a hybrid pack. I might just try it once and see if I like them. Can't hurt and strings don't cost that much.

A musician must have the right equipment to perform his best, lol. I'm that way when I have to buy strings for my tennis racket or replace the grips on my golf clubs.

Plus, we all have preferences. I always like the question, "What's the best thing to use?" It always depends. What's best for me may not be best for the next guy.
