Singing is a good way to exercise one's lungs. Each of us have our own range when it comes to octaves. Going higher or going lower can come with practice beyond one's own range. Ofcourse if you are not a good singer then I suggest you sing in the bathroom. I do that sometimes. I am not a good singer when it comes to solo singing but I am tolerated in group singing Here is a song that will help you improve your lungs Julie Andrews singing Do Re Me - Sound of Music ENJOY

I come from a family of good and excellent singers and other music talents. I got the genes for good music appreciation but skipped the ones for good singing. I am okay with solo singing. But then I keep singing and humming. A bird sings because it has a song and not because it needs audience and appreciation.

Have you tried to improve your range and there lies the secret to healthy lungs. Do you play any instruments?

Good enough and that is sufficient to exercise your lungs.

@allknowing I don't any more. We sang in a choir in Ireland when my son was conducting a church choir.

Of course, I write and play music, and that often requires "singing." I put singing in quotes because I tend to feel like what comes out is more like what a strangled chicken would sound like. But I try. lol

I sing when I am doing house chores, not too loud singing, but I like to sing. The mother of my husband was an Opera singer.

I sing too but I am not good singer. In our family my husband and one of my sisters sang well. Do you have a recording of your Mother-in-law's singing? I know Opera singers do not sing solo but if she has it would be nice to listen to her singing

@allknowing - Unfortunately I have nothing recorded of my Mother-in-law, I only have some photos of her dressed as Madama Butterfly and Carmen.
