To Season or Not To Season

Calling all myLot chefs and kitchen folk.
I found a great deal on an enameled (coated) cast iron frying pan on sale. It was seriously really reduced and then today was also the last day of their entire store wide 20% off sale. So yes, I picked up something that I needed and saved alot.
But......I have never had a cast iron frying pan in my almost 37 years of housekeeping. And no.........I do not know the first things about getting it going.
I searched online and apparently I do not have to season it. But I know that these pans can be a blessing if you season it and wash it properly.
This cast iron frying pan has an enamel coating.
Can you direct me in the right choice of seasoning/not seasoning? And if seasoning, I see online that I have to put it into the oven upside down for an hour at 375F, is that accurate?

If it has an enamel coating, I wouldn't think you would season it. Have a good week.

@LindaOHio You are correct, those with enamel coating do not need seasoning.

@Juliaacv You can. And always dry them on the stove with heat after washing.

Thank you, I have decided from what I have researched that I will season it.
I have the oven on now, but it has 2 things in it and no room for a sheet to put the pan on, so after I take supper out I will put the pan in upside down on the cookie sheet.
That kitchen is Willow and Harper's outside mud kitchen. They are actual working sinks, the water is stored in the reservoir and then recycled. Harper loves doing dishes out there.

@1creekgirl They have literally spend hundreds of hours playing out on the deck since Mother's Day weekend when it was constructed. In late June my husband put up a gazebo over it to keep the girls shaded.

I did season it.
Grandpa and Mommie built that kitchen for the girls last May.
They have literally spent hundreds of hours playing in the sinks.
Harper washes dishes every day in it at least twice a day.
And funny enough, they both run to help Grandpa empty Mommy's dishwasher when inside the house.
One day they may not be so eager to do chores like that.

Always season cast iron. Lodge sells a cleaning and seasoning kit. Invest in it.

Thank you, that was an interesting read.
I know that it is not necessary to season it, but I have it in the oven currently seasoning it.
This article really explains the difference between the enamel coated and the non-coated cast iron pans.
It is a good investment, and I got mine on sale, which pleased me.

I don't have any cast iron so I can't offer any advice. But, this is probably the best place to get first hand advice. E joy your new pan.
