Thoughts on Water Drinking

Our bodies use water in many ways. It is made up of mostly water and it helps in digestion and can ease constipation. It can also help to flush out toxins and stop kidney stones from forming. Not drinking enough can cause problems with bowel movements. It is recommended that men drink 15.5 cups and women 11.5 cups minimum per day. There are many foods we eat all the time that contain water. We get about 20% water from foods we eat such as Iceberg lettuce, watermelon, tomatoes, strawberries, grapefruit, zucchini, carrots, cucumbers, spinach, cauliflower, tomatoes, and celery. Soup and yogurt have it in too. Nowadays it is a good idea to carry filtration tablets and/or water filters when camping. That water that looks fresh and clean in the stream can contain toxic plants, animal poop and pee, and illegal drugs. When you first wake up it's not a good idea to drink an entire gallon of water. It doesn't kick-start the metabolism. The experts recommend sipping throughout the day. No more than one liter per hour. A person does not have to be sick or exercise hard to be dehydrated. We lose water just in normal functions like breathing and pooping each day. So if you feel tired mid-day it could be that you are dehydrated. Adding things to the water is fine stay away from sweeteners like sucralose, aspartame, high fructose syrup, or just sugar. Use natural fruits instead like lemon, limes, mint, and cucumbers but be sure to wash them first. Use taking your vitamins as a time to hydrate. Drinking a full glass of water with them can also help to from sticking to your throat and causing irritation. Be sure you are not using water bottles that have the chemical bisphenol A in them. Check that they are BPA-free free made with glass or stainless steel.

I'm trying to drink more water; but it's hard. It seems like every month a new article comes out changing how much water we need in a day. Have a good day.

I find the same amount in most articles I read. 11.5 cups for women and 15.5 for men.

@LindaOHio .......Not totally. You can certainly drink a full glass of water when taking pills and such. But, they are saying now to recognize when you feel thirsty and get a good drink.

@celticeagle I read an article recently that said to drink water when you get thirsty. That's totally WRONG!

Other than coffee, water is probably the only other thing I drink throughout the day.

We also lose elecutrolites when we lose water. Our bodies need both to fuction. So drinking water alone isn't enough. You need to be replacing elytrolytes, too. So, that's something to keep in mind when chosing your hydration needs.

That is true. I keep some powder electrolytes handy for when I feel I need them.

I drink lots of water each day. I have a filter pitcher and the water in the pitcher tastes really good.

I think that is the best way to keep water. Don't forget to change the filter occasionally.
