A Lidl recipe

Lidl has ‘flavour of the week’ promotions, focussing on a different country each time. I didn’t pay all that much attention to them until recently when they focussed on Italy, and I noticed that they had begun to include a recipe using one or more of the featured ingredients on sale that week. One of the special ingredients was ‘Crema spalmabile al latte e nocciole’ - hazelnut crème spread – and they included a recipe for little chocolate biscuits using it. Well we are all very fond of nutty chocolate biscuits, so I hopped on my bike and pedalled round to the nearest Lidl to snap up a jar or two of the necessary ingredients. And then the girls and I tried out the recipe. The biscuits were very easy to make, and the results were delicious! Although they slipped down far too easily. I know it’s just a way to get us to buy their products – and it worked – but if we love the outcome that’s OK by me! Have you tried making something based on a store promotion? I can't cook or bake anymore; but your biscuits sound delicious. The chocolate hazelnut spread sounds like our Nutella. Have a good day.

The hazelnut spread sold by Lild is a sort of "unbranded" Nutella, but healthier than the original Nutella and less expensive.

@LadyDuck Here, Lidl's own chocolate hazelnut spread is called 'Choco Nussa'. But that is different to this hazelnut milk creme spread.

The spread was called 'hazelnut milk cream spread'- no chocolate. It isn't the same as Nutella, they do their own version of that too, which we buy regularly, and that also went into this recipe on the top (as you can see in the picture).

That sounds so good! I like store promotions like that even though I never really used a recipe a store provided. Why not help a person get a few ideas…

They had not thought you used the recipe to make your own chocolate biscuits ,rather than buying their products.

I have tried a few things in supermarket magazines before I think.

Oh, Nutella! At my place it's either Nutella or fake Nutella. Those cookies look delicious, I'm not surprised they didn't last for long.

@somewitch It was really delicious. It was something I've never seen before, it seemed to be something they only do for their Italian promotions, unlike the 'Choco Nussa' which they sell year round.

@Fleura Oh, my mistake. The photo must have confused me. Yeah, I've seen the "pale" cream but I've never tried it. I had hazelnut butter lately which is healthier and probably tastes alike.

I wish I could have one of those ! I think of this hot sauce they were promoting at a health food store - not something I would normally buy. They made a vegetable/chip dip with that sauce and whipped cream cheese, another item I would not normally buy. It was an easy peasy recipe - and the sample was so good - ok, I was suckered into buying all the ingredients!

I have made some of our dinners using recipes at the store promoting a product. They were good. My Nana would make something similar to those biscuits at Christmas. Everyone loved them
