Just in time!

Today is ‘bin day’, when our rubbish or recycling is collected. Normally we put our bins on the roadside on Wednesday evening ready for collection Thursday morning, but yesterday we all clean forgot. I only remembered when I was sitting on the toilet and I heard the tell-tale rumbling of the lorry going past on the road outside. Bother! Rubbish and recycling are collected on alternate weeks, so if we miss a collection we have to wait two weeks for the next one. Normally this isn’t such a big deal but as it happens Little One has been having a big sort-out so there was quite a lot of paper and cardboard in there this time. I hurried outside and could see the lorry just a bit further along the road, so I dashed back, grabbed the wheelie bin, and ran after it. Those guys certainly don’t hang around, but luckily I was faster! I got a surprised look from a neighbour as I ran past with the bin rumbling loudly along behind me, and even more from the workers when I caught them up about a quarter of a mile along the road, but anyway they emptied it for me and I was able to walk home more slowly – and at least I got some exercise for the day!
