Just in time!

Today is ‘bin day’, when our rubbish or recycling is collected. Normally we put our bins on the roadside on Wednesday evening ready for collection Thursday morning, but yesterday we all clean forgot. I only remembered when I was sitting on the toilet and I heard the tell-tale rumbling of the lorry going past on the road outside. Bother! Rubbish and recycling are collected on alternate weeks, so if we miss a collection we have to wait two weeks for the next one. Normally this isn’t such a big deal but as it happens Little One has been having a big sort-out so there was quite a lot of paper and cardboard in there this time. I hurried outside and could see the lorry just a bit further along the road, so I dashed back, grabbed the wheelie bin, and ran after it. Those guys certainly don’t hang around, but luckily I was faster! I got a surprised look from a neighbour as I ran past with the bin rumbling loudly along behind me, and even more from the workers when I caught them up about a quarter of a mile along the road, but anyway they emptied it for me and I was able to walk home more slowly – and at least I got some exercise for the day! Good for you. We used to have to tow our bins down to the road but we did work out how to make just one trip.

@Fleura I think I wrote on here once that I couldn't decide if we were clever or just plain lazy!

What a morning adventure you have there! It’s always such a rush when you realize you’ve missed bin day, but what is impressive is that you managed to catch up with the lorry!

@fleura I hate it when that happens. I’m usually so organised for bin day. Ours is collected at 10am on Wednesdays, so I booked this holiday I’m on so that we left the house two hours after our general , non-recyclable bin would be emptied.

Gosh that is organised! Ours is always the same day (unless after a bank holiday) but the time is quite variable.

Glad to know you managed to empty the wheelie bin at last, although it sounded a bit tough,,it remind me recalling to catch a bus in hurry.

Our recycling is collected every week but the rubbish only every other week. Glad you caught up with the truck.

That is good to know that you were able to have the trash picked up on time.

We sometimes forget it's "bin day" too, but I never thought of running after the collectors! But then we'd go to the waste collection centre if we really couldn't wait. It was a good excuse to exercise, for sure.
