10/14/24 - Update On My Husband

My husband fell 3 times at home within 24 hours. After I made 3 calls to 911, I finally had to let him be admitted to the hospital. From there he will go to another facility. I am hoping he can be admitted to our facility of choice which is a 5-star facility. I don't want him going back to the same place he was in last time.
He is being treated for his AFIB; and he also has a UTI for which he's getting antibiotics. He went from the ER to stepdown so he now has a phone and I can call him today. I hope to see him tomorrow.
A MyLot member offered to come up to help. I can't believe the generosity and care that my friends here exhibit. You are all very special to me.
I can't believe that after less than 1 day home, he is gone again. I kept a positive outlook for 8-1/2 months; but I am now depressed.
I would appreciate any prayers, support or thoughts.

I am glad he is there being cared for, and just put your foot down and tell whoever the powers that be are at that hospital, you won't send him back to the same place again. You want the best for him, and I don't blame you a bit.

If he absolutely had to go back to the same place, I would insist that he not be put in the same room.

I am so sorry Linda. Yes, best to keep him out of that other place. If you can get him in a 5 star facility would be the best. THoughts and prayers for both of you..and bless the mylotter that is willing to help.

I pray he will finally get the kind of help he really needs so he can heal. I pray you will recover as well as I know this must have been such a shock for you, if I lived closer to you I would help as much as I could, even bring Roscoe round for canine support.
Right now I'm praying they will send him to a facility closer to you so you can visit him more often.5 people like this

@rebelann We visited him yesterday in the hospital. He has a nice big room all to himself...no loud TV, no nurses and aides talking and laughing loudly, the food is a bit better, etc.

I am sorry about what happened to him. I hope you will find a better place for him to stay. It is sad that he's back home and then after a day he's back to the hospital.

@LindaOHio There is a place to care for him, you will need to exhaust all of your professional connections to find it, but it exists.

Sorry to hear that. UTIs can be harder on a man. He was not ready to come home it sounds like.

Oh, Linda, I am so sorry. When I worked in nursing homes, if a person fell one of the first things they did was check for a UTI. If they get that resolved it may help him. I hope you have more say in what facility your husband goes to.

The nurse said she suspected a UTI too. I hope when it's cleared up he can walk better.

I am so sorry that things turned out that way. Falling is part of it. George has fallen a few times since he's been home. I know what it's like. I hope it doesn't come to that, but have you talked about a nursing home? Rehab can only take a person so far after all.

@LindaOHio While you can get their opinion, it's what you and your husband want that you have to consider. Don't forget, they can only go so far with rehab, and falling is part of the recovery process.

@kaylachan The problem with falling is that he can't get up by himself; and even with my help, he couldn't get up. Had to call 911 3 times. Can't keep doing that.

Everyone here is a gem. I have so many good friends here such as you; and it brings tears to my eyes that you and everyone else have been so supportive and loving. Thank you so much for your offer. I am waiting to hear what the doctors will say and where they think he should go.
