...and law abiding citizens are screwed. My wife went to take her car to the self car wash today and noticed that her sticker on her license plate was missing. We know we put it on there. So, that means someone stole it. So, here's how this works. The person that stole the sticker that we paid $160 for gets a sticker for free, and we have to pay $20 to replace it, even though the state has a record and PROOF that we paid for the sticker. They will not replace the stolen sticker, regardless of proof it was paid for, without charging us, the victims of a crime, a fee. To top it all off? The people who stole the sticker will never be stopped for an expired tag and they save $160 while we are now out $180. I am fit to be tied.

One of my son's friends got his stolen a few years back. Now he uses that big clear packing tape that's super sticky, and covers the tag and seals it to the plate. After that stuff has been on there a day or two, the only way to get it off is to use chemicals, which will destroy the sticker. I agree, it totally sucks that you have to pay a fee to replace something stolen.

The year of the current registration. On our plates the upper left corner shows the month, and the upper right corner shows the year.

@porwest They tried that here years ago. Then it was red stickers to indicate a provisional driver (17 years old). That ended too I think.

@NJChicaa I have never lived in a state where there was not a sticker on the plate.

That's a lot of money for a tag sticker. Which reminds me I need to get that done tomorrow otherwise George's tag will expire. He may not be driving, but we are still paying his insurance, and we're still updating his tag so his stuff will be legal when he does drive.

It's basically part of the total registration fee. The sticker just shows the police you paid for your registration. But the whole thing is nothing but a ripoff. No doubt about it.

There is a serious need for the system upgrade. That is really irritating. But I hope you are feeling fine already.

Tell me about it. The thieves are the ones who steal your sticker AS WELL AS the ones who charge you when someone steals your sticker. lol

I think so too, especially considering they have a record we paid for it already. They should just give us a new one.

I know how you feel, I was reading a story in our newspaper today that made me sick. A tourist "bought" chocolates at one of our stores, faked to pay at the self check out and quit without paying. He was stopped at the entrance, he attacked the guy of the security who stopped him, finally was arrested and ended up in jail for 15 days. Good! NO, his lawyer said it was exaggerated for a small amount, he was obliged to pay a fine of $ 300, but he received a compensation of almost $ 12,000 for the days he spent in jail. I am considering to steal something and cash in the next time I go shopping.

$160 is quite high. Sorry you had it stolen. Have a good day.

It's a blue state. We're constantly hit by high fees and taxes for everything. But to have to pay for a renewal sticker that was stolen, that they have a record we paid for, is ridiculous.
