Collinwood, Victoria Winters, Barnabas Collins. Remember the TV series from the 60s? I used to hurry home from school to watch it.
Some of its charm was the bloopers. There were missed lines, some scenes were out of focus, and the ones I always enjoyed were the shadow of mics every now and then. Low budget it was but there was some great imagery and it was always so totally gothic. It was on for six seasons from 1966-1971. A couple made for TV movies were made too.
Jonathan Fridd did a great job as Barnabas Collins. He was British and that accent really added to the mystique and wonder of the character. He wasn't supposed to be a main character. He was supposed to be in a 13-week storyline and then get killed off. He doesn't even come on the show until around 200-210 episodes in. But he became the primary character. But there were so many.
My favorite character on the show was Angelique. She was a witch who was in love with Barnie. The actress became a writer after the show came to a close and wrote several books that continued the story.
There was a sad remake of the show made into a movie. Even though it had Johnny Depp and Michelle Pfeiffer in it it didn't do well at the box office and other fans of the TV series hated it.
I think that this show really was the beginning of my love for vampires. Then I was introduced to Anne Rice's Vampire Chronicles and was an instant fan of Lestat and his adventures. Take away the bloodletting and these characters are sublime.

I remember seeing Dark Shadows on television in Panama but I am not sure if it was on Southern Command Network or the Spanish speaking channels.

I loved the serial. Later on I saw the movie and, like you, found it awful. I was sort of in love with Barnabas Collins. He was a romantic bawdy sort of vampire.

I was a big “Dark Shadows” fan and also ran home from school to watch it. I had a poster of Barnabas Collins that I loved.

I used to have the VHS set of the series. I also have a record of the themes like the for Angelique and such. Sort of eerie music.
