Have you seen this show? I enjoy it. I used to watch it on PBS. I found it again on Netflix and was watching it earlier today. It made me remember my grandmother's and mother's input in my life. Cooking wise that is. My grandmother was a wonderful cook. She had a big garden and canned food every year. She also baked bread and biscuits once a week. She was there for me if I had an issue because I used to cook and bake. My mom was a great cook too. When we lived in Pocatello she was a member of a Pinochle group. Once a week they would get together and whoever was hosting would make something for their break. My mom made a concord grape juice soufle one time and got rave reviews. It was my grandmother's canned concord grape juice that she used. Watching this show reminds me of those cooking days. They have to cook jellies and cakes, truffles and pastries, savory and sweet pies, and all manner of things. The stress and the fluster when they don't really know what they are doing. I don't know how they do it. They get a fair facsimile of the tried and true recipe and have to have enough knowledge to get by. Some of the dishes are sublime and others are real travesties. I think we all have our favorite specialty dish. I love to make cinnamon rolls and am told my roast is good. Do you have a dish you enjoy cooking and feel is your 'specialty'? There are a few things I wish I was good at like pastries. I would love to be able to make them. Do have something you wish you could perfect?

I've seen some recipes for pie crusts that included vodka. Can you believe it?
