Lovely, Lovely, Lovely

Ah, those lovely trees. The colors have been a little muted this year because of the “roller coaster” weather we’ve had (very wet, then very dry), but that doesn’t mean that the beauty can’t be found. I went out for a drive today, to one of my favorite “getaway” places. About 50 miles south of Louisville is a small city called Elizabethtown. You may have heard of it because there was a movie filmed there back in the late 2000s. We call it “E-town.” It’s close to Fort Knox, and close to Louisville, so it has that “small-town but not that small” vibe. In short, it has a town square but you don’t have to slow down on the interstate. There are two parks across from each other, connected by a pedestrian path that goes under the busy road that separates them. One is a veterans park, with a replica of the Vietnam Wall and an area with the branches of service honored. Freeman Lake is on the other side, with a great walking path around the lake area. That’s where I went. It was cool, but not too bad at all. I kept my hoodie on while walking, then took it off when I got in the car. The walk was just spectacular, with the lake, the cobalt blue sky, and the lovely, lovely, lovely foliage. Yeah, I had a good day.
