In New York City's East Village on Avenue A was a place called Obscura Antiques and Oddities. It was there for more than 20 years.
There was a 30-minute TV show on Discovery for 5 years from November 2010 called "Strange Oddities". It was about the macabre, quirky, and downright odd place and the people they helped to find odd and obscure items. I always enjoyed it. I wish it was still on.
The owners, Mike Zohn and Evan Michelson, and their buyer, Ryan Mathew Cohn were the stars and whoever came into the shop each week. They went to flea markets and such to find the items. They even had Cassandra Petersen( the woman who does the Elvira character) on the show when they were in California.
Such items as mummified cats, monkey skulls, human skulls, and a two-headed calf were common on the show. And, even odder specimens if you can imagine.
Did you watch the show?

Isn't it weird that sometimes we live in an area for forever and don't know about these places?

No, hadn't even heard of it.
Last time Juanita was driving me home from Hamilton, we passed a store called "Weird Stuff." Not sure if it's just eclectic stuff or witchy stuff.

It depends on a person's thoughts on what is weird I guess.
