Gas it Up

In the 1880s the inventors of automobiles thought that gasoline would make a great motor fuel. So what once was disposable became valuable. The consumer would buy it the same way they bought kerosene since there were no gas stations yet. They would go to the blacksmith shop, pharmacy, or even the grocery store and buy it in a can.
The inventor was Sylvanus Freelove Bowser and he hadn't realized it but the same pump designed for kerosene became very useful for filling cars with gasoline. It was in 1905 that he added a long hose and the motorist could then fill up at curbside.
The first gas station was the Gulf Refining Company in downtown Pittsburg in the early 1900s.

I remember the first time I got a car in NYC. I was glad they still had gas pumps that gas attendants filled up, Later they changed to self-fill and I hated that whole process,

I loved it when the attendant actually came out, filled the car with gas and cleaned your windshield.

Interesting. I remember traveling to southern Ohio and the gas was around 39 cents a gallon. Have a good week.
