India was once divided chiefly by caste. Today, new criteria are creating a different divide: skills. Those with marketable skills are sought by a new economy of call centers and software houses; those without are ensnared in old, drudgelike jobs. I'm graduated with B.SC, but done as bank officer in Rural Bank. What is the purpose of education. Comments please.

As the world is progressing and so India...and I think there those who have technical skills, soft skills and a little bit a IQ can live a great life.. But I don't know of those how many are really happy in doing their jobs of their kind... Many Indians prefer money rather then their interseted Jobs...

That's true! I shudder at the college education we offer in our country. When countries like china, japan, etc, have developed a thriving economy based on skilled labour in industry, why is our country lagging? Why dont we give our youth a chance in life, by equipping him/her with just 'ONE' skill? We simply continue our outdated educational system. Of course, there are new courses being offered in 'life sciences' like biotechnology, and diplomas in bioclinical methods(lab technology),etc, but the so-called B.A, B.Sc, in our country are the (if I may use) 'VAGUEST' courses that can possibly be found in any country in the world!
