How is this possible?

I went to CVS pharmacy last week. Wasn’t sure if I had their ExtraCare card or not so entered my phone number during checkout. My number was accepted. When I was done paying and clicked to print the receipt the email it showed me wasn’t my own, which I found weird. When I got home I created an online account on the CVS website and entered my phone number and email to look up my ExtraCare account. It gave me an error message: Incorrect info. Info entered doesn’t match our records. I thought maybe I never signed up for the ExtraCare card so decided to join. When I did that I got a message that I already have it. Tried to look it up again using my phone number and email but got the same “incorrect info” message. I called the ExtraCare number and told the representative what happened. When she tried to look up the account on her end she said that phone number is associated with another account. How is that possible? I’ve had this mobile phone number for many years. Something isn’t right. She tried to create a new ExtraCare account for me on her end and it worked. I was able to successfully link it to my online account. While it’s great that I now have an ExtraCare account the card will only arrive in 3-4 weeks. I have a feeling that if I shop at a CVS location and don’t have the store card on me, entering my phone number may still bring up the other account and not mine.

It's probably as you said...someone else had the number before you or they made a mistake entering it. Have a good Thanksgiving..

I guess I will never know. I just hope I can use the card in stores before the card actually comes in the mail.

@LindaOHio nothing to rave about but it wasn’t bad.

Sounds like someone else entered your phone number! That's not cool.

My one assumption is perhaps before I got this mobile number maybe someone else had it. And maybe they used it for their ExtraCare account. Or maybe someone entering the phone number for their account made a mistake entering it.

@lovebuglena Right, but you would think they would have corrected the typo if that was the case!

It is. Unless someone had the mobile number that I have now and used it for their ExtraCare account I don’t get how this is possible.

That is really strange but glad you were able to get an account created for you,

Yes. Now I want to be able to use it when I shop at an actual CVS store before the card actually comes in the mail. Not sure if entering my phone number will actually bring up my account. I have a feeling someone else’s will pop up like it did last time.

That sounds very weird indeed. I wonder how that all happened.

I may never know. Next time I’m at the store I will try to put my phone number and see which card comes up. Though I won’t know it till after I pay and get the receipt I think.

I have an ExtraCare account now but I do not know if entering my phone number will bring up my account or one that is not mine.

If you have the CVS account, you can download the app sign in with your online info, and then pull up a barcode for them to scan to make sure they were able to scan the new account. It's also possible you signed up years ago with a different e-mail and you forgot the e-mail was different. Or, it's human error. If it's been a while it's possible that you used a different e-mail.

The email that showed up on the credit card machine (though it only showed the first letter of email and then email provider) definitely wasn’t one I ever had.
