Vaccines

I am seeing in the news where the H151 bird flu is gaining momentum in the country. I always think about those who deny vaccines and refuse to get or have their children get them. I am wondering where these people are coming from. Have they perhaps had a bad experience with one? Or have they listened to misinformation? Or are they listening to RFK, jr.s anti- vaccine misinfo? Do any of them realize that it is not just them that are at risk but all people around them if they don't get their vaccine? This congressman named Weldon is against the entire CDC. He wants to do away with it. If he and RFK,jr. get together who knows what could happen. HELP! What are your thoughts on this issue?

I share your opinion on this completely. I remember when our son (who is 35) got the chicken pox, today vaccinations prevent that. I remember when I, (older than 35) got the measles, the mumps as well as the chicken pox. I was thankful that we had our son had the MMR (mumps, measles, rubella) vaccinations during his early years, as that meant that he did not come down with those illnesses. We were very thankful that he had those vaccinations so that he wouldn't suffer from those illnesses. I had mumps as a young adult when I was 20 years old, I was very sick with it. I believe that the young parents today feel that they have 'choices' and that there are side effects to any chemicals, including medical vaccinations, into their bodies. People complain about having a cold and shrug it off by saying there is no cure for the common cold, but if there were a vaccine, I can bet that the majority wouldn't take it.

You could be right there (about a cold vaccine). I haven't had a really bad cold since I was a teenager. I just get the sniffles for a day or two, so I probably wouldn't get that vaccine. But I did get the shingles vaccine after suffering two mild outbursts.

@Juliaacv It was covered when I got it a few years ago... but only for a certain demographic, which I happened to qualify for.

@BarBaraPrz I wish that the Shingles Vaccination were covered like the others are. But our healthcare is diminishing more and more every year.

All children should get vaccines to protect themselves and their families.

Yes, I agree. That is my biggest question. Why don't some parents want their kids to get the vaccines? They seem to have these rather strange reasons.

Vaccines have been saving lives for over a century. I don´t understand some people. Some years ago my daughter´s ex husband got married again in the middle of the pandemia. He invited (everything paid ) to his wedding. Daniel was against vaccines. So my ex SIL told him that unless he had the vaccines, he wasn´t coming to the party. He had to put up his arm!

I have nothing against vaccinations, I remember my mom taking me for vaccinations when I went to school. However, now I have not taken any vaccinations in years. Just don't want to and I have not had the flu in ages.

Same here. No flu in a long time. I got the COVID vaccination about three summers or more ago. That's the last one too.

I used to think that human society would continually advance and improve, and I struggled to understand how the great civilisations of the past just disappeared. Now I know. We get to a certain stage and then some idiots come along and reverse everything!

True. And, in the past, ignorant people traveled without getting vaccines and then passed stuff on to other countries. This may be the reason behind some civilizations disappearing.

Many diseases that were once considered conquered are coming back into the US. People are listening to misinformation about vaccines; and it will cause another onset of these diseases. Have a good weekend.

Yes, they are. You are right. Ignorance. But how do you get through to them?

Well, I don't get the flu vaccine because I don't get the flu. I did get the covid vaccines 1 & 2, and wish I hadn't, because my health has gone rapidly downhill since. Could be coincidence, but with all these others reporting ill reactions, I don't know.

I don't either. I got the COVID vaccine but no boosters. I haven't been sick.

Mostly I think it's down to misinformation and the short span of human memory. Perhaps if there is a spate of deaths people will realise that these diseases are actually dangerous after all, and vaccination is the greatest advance in human health since hand-washing.

It is so important though. I wish there was some way to get through to people. I guess it is like me trying to get those people hypnotized by Trump's lies to listen.
