It Makes You Want to Stub Your Toe

Are Democrats stupid? No, really. I often wonder about that. And I don't mean that to be mean. I am just calling out the obvious when it comes to at least certain things. Take the Governor of Maryland for example, Wes Moore. Maryland has mismanaged their money and now have a $3 billion deficit they want to get rid of. So, what's the plan? Raise taxes on the wealthy in his state. Sure, some people might say, "Hey, that's a good thing. They should get that deficit wiped out in no time." But there are two big problems with this. The new tax doesn't address why they have the deficit in the first place and also, the wealthiest people have the means to live anywhere they want, with some exceptions. Does a guy like Wes Moore NOT look at the result of higher taxes in states where taxes are high? The rich LEAVE those states. They don't just stay there and pay the tax. Why do Democrats NEVER understand this? It has been proven TIME AND TIME AGAIN that if you want to RAISE your tax revenues, you LOWER the taxes. If you raise them, you generate less revenue. It makes me want to stub my toe to understand what goes through some heads—or to understand how people with nothing but air between their ears manage to continue to get elected in places. Maybe the better idea is to find areas of the budget that can be cut, or have better tax incentives initiated to encourage more businesses to set up shop there, offering more and better paying jobs that they can generate more income taxes from, and encourage more commerce. The bottom line is, raising taxes is simply not going to achieve anything but an exodus FROM your state of the very people you are seeking to help you out of a hole you've dug. SOME of them might even take their businesses with them. All I can say to Wes Moore is, good luck.

I mean, it would be one thing if you could actually go back and point to higher taxes having a positive effect. You can't. Even JFK, as a Democrat, was smart enough to understand this and offered tax cuts that put America on a very strong economic path for many years after his presidency ended abruptly.

I think they should lower taxes for the rich by 600 per cent!

I know the democrats in the small ocean town I live in can be so mean! I have to block and scroll a lot lately. They need to get to the root of the cause and not just raise taxes. Here, they tax and add fees and it's crazy and still issues. Thankfully, we are pulling out by May.

@porwest Jim, if you're going to be a good rhetorician, you're going to have to learn not to say only "Democrats" or "Republicans." I know adding the word "some"makes things sound "weaker," but your statement will be closer to the "truth," if there is such a thing. I know several well-informed Republicans and Democrats. But I also know some Republicans and some Democrats who did not read a single book about Trump, FOX News, improving the educational system, etc.,even during Covid, when we had a lot of "down time."

When someone is kind to me, I don't ask about their political affiliation..Montana is a red state, but I'd rather be stuck in a ditch there than in California.

@TheHorse More often than not, you don't have to ask. You can tell.

The democrats have something wrong with their heads since they think Joe Biden is such a great guy and did a wonderful job while in office. Enough said. There is no hope for most of them because they are brain washed. They do not understand that the media was not being honest with them and bought into all the lies.

Brain washed is a good way to put it. I mean, how does one walk into a grocery store and pay 30% more for their groceries, walk out, go home and turn on the news, hear Biden say, "Bidenomics is working and the economy has never been stronger," and NOT be able to connect the dots and realize, "That can't be true."

Here in CA, some of the "naughty" people register their businesses in Nevada, as corporate taxes are lower there.

That happens all the time. Most companies are incorporated in Delaware but have their headquarters somewhere else, and it's all due to the tax laws as well as incorporation laws being favorable.

It boggles my mind how some politicians were elected into office.

@porwest it’s very easy to point fingers at others and blame them.

@lovebuglena Too easy. And of course, when you can point fingers, it's easier to bypass taking personal responsibility.

People don't look at substance or policy or even results. They look at the letter after a politician's name and it is good enough for them. Then when things go wrong, they point their fingers at the rich and the Republicans for things.

Wasn't GOP Larry Hogan the MD governor before Wes Moore who is relatively new on the scene?

@porwest it matters because you are blaming Moore for what Hoagland did

@NJChicaa No. I am not. I never once said anything about Hogan. I said, "The new tax doesn't address why they have the deficit in the first place." That is simply saying SOMETHING caused the deficit. If you address the WHY, you have a better chance of solving the problem. Why are you putting words in my mouth? I clearly criticized the SOLUTION and the solution only.

What does it matter who created the mess, and I would have to look up Hogan's record to make a full comment. The point here is the solution. It's the wrong one. It won't work. It never has worked. So, why do it?
