Did you ever know someone who never was happy?

That was my mother, almost to a T. She was curious, and inquisitive, and loved learning new things, etc. However simple things that she should have been happy about, she did nothing but criticize. Seeing the post by @kareng reminded me of a happy memory about my kids, but it also reminded me that my mother never had a happy word to say about my younger sister's wedding and I will agree that there were things that were not great about it, BUT there were also a lot of wonderful things that could have brought a smile to her face. I do not want to ever be like that. It must have been miserable.

Sounds like my mother. She never had a nice thing to say about anybody in the family. However, she put on a different persona in public.

Her negativity is why she was not included in many things.

Unfortunately my mother is like this and so I was like that too until someone pointed it out to me. I tried hard to be different after realizing that guy was right. My sister and her kids loved with my mom and dad their whole lives and I noticed that same negativity rubbed off on my oldest niece too.

@shaggin It is a big burden to bear to be "right" or "perfect" all the time and feel wronged if things do not go your way.

Actually that is pretty true of my mom's family. And they were all so much "better" than everyone.

@GardenGerty that’s sad I’m sorry. I’m glad you aren’t like them.

Yes, and being around them was miserable. I’m thankful that I don’t have that problem.

@FourWalls what a cool thing to remember about your mother. There were some cool things about mine, but the wedding thing and my younger sister's marriage was a mess.

@GardenGerty — my mother was always joyful even when she wasn’t “happy.” My dad, on the other hand, couldn’t be pleased. Guess he wasn’t happy.

Offhand I can't say I know anyone who was never happy. I agree that it must be miserable though to never find anything to make you smile.

@GardenGerty meanwhile I thought about this and my ex mother in law wasn't a very happy person. Its been years since she's passed away so she really isn't someone I think about very often.

Sounds like my mom and then she argues with me when I say something about it. She didn't say she was proud of me when I joined the Fire Department until my husband's mother did.

That's a shame. I've known several of these types down through the years. I even had one on here for a while. She'd come make a negative comment in one of my posts and then move on. I tried to put up with her until it started bugging others so I blocked her. These types are unhappy themselves and putting it off on others. Sorry to hear your mom was that way.

I´m sorry for her. But maybe she was happy inside even if she did not show it. My mom was not a very happy person either. But my father made up for it all.

We may think that they are not happy but maybe they find happiness and satisfaction of what they are doing. They don't know if they already hurt other people's feelings or if they know, they are happy about it.

It's such a pity when people are like this. One lady in the village is never happy, always criticising and it shows in her face.

@JudyEv He does not strike me as grumpy, although being partially deaf contributes to that.

@GardenGerty It's funny how personality traits show up. In the different brass bands we played in, there was always one grumpy old man, partly deaf, and he always played the trumpet. If we were still in bands, Vince would probably be that old man although he is not often grumpy.
