More and more information about our friends the bee. * Bees are usually harmless to humans unless they are provoked. Unless a person is allergic to bee stings most people only suffer temporary pain and minor swelling. * There is a bee called a killer bee. This Africanized honey bee has venom that is strong enough to seriously harm and even kill a human. They have been know to kill large animals such as horses. If they perceive a threat they will give chase for up to a quarter-mile. They are much more aggressive than other bee species. You can imagine the threat of a swarm of these types of bees. * There are 500 species of a stingless bee. Some kinds make medicinal honey which is used to fight off infections and treat wounds. Many are found in Latin America. * Many wild plants as well as crops rely on bees for pollination. That is 90% of wild plants and 75% of crops. Without this pollination, nearly all of the plant life in the world would die. * Bees are endangered with a drop in colonies of almost 3 million over the last several decades. The reason for this is due to habitat loss, chemical pollution, and parasites. The picture is from ar.inspiredpencil.com
