* The Greek God of love is Eros( Greek for amor), the child of the Goddess of Love, Venus. * Cupid comes from the Latin word 'Cupido' which means passion or desire. Traced back to 700 B.C. in Ancient Greece. * Cupid was often pictured as a handsome you man with a bow and arrow. When the Romans adopted Greek mythology they chose to depict Eros as a angelic child likely because the Greeks were seen as culturally sophisticated. * Cupid is a symbol of both conflict and desire with a baby's body and lethal weapons. * He used the bow and arrow to make people fall in love. Golden arrows to help them fall in love and led ones to fall out of love. The picture is from The Graphics Family.

This is really interesting. I never knew that Cupid was originally depicted as a handsome young man before the Romans turned him into the cherubic figure we see today. The idea of him carrying both golden and lead arrows to create love or heartbreak is pretty wild. Funny how something from ancient mythology still shapes how we think about love today.
