The photo shows a pillar/post box which was in the Collie Museum. Unfortunately, I can’t read the sign so I don’t know how old it is but the town was gazetted in 1897.
This is a handsome-looking post box with the details picked out in gold. I wonder if they’ve had to change all the ‘ER’s to ‘CR’s now that Queen Elizabeth has passed away.
Post boxes were once green but apparently people kept walking into them so they were all changed to red.

You definitely can't miss seeing that color.

@JudyEv I increased the size of the photo, too, but it was too blurry to read.

@DaddyEvil That's what I found. I often take photos of notices but I missed this one.

There is interesting information about the GR, ER, etc on The ER sometimes has a number so you know if it's signifying Edward Rex or Elizabeth Rex. I couldn't find a number on this. VR boxes were apparently installed between 1853 to 1901.

Post Boxes remind me of the late 1990s and early 2000s when we used to write letters and receive them.
I think I have seen a few green postal boxes in pictures and perhaps movies but long ago.
Does E in ER stands for Queen Elizabeth?

Sound like legacy of the Colonial times!
They instead could have simply used "Her Majesty" (HM) !!

I wish I'd taken a photo of the sign. I'm not sure how old it is.

That reminds me more of a fire pump than a post box, I have never seen one like that,

That’s really interesting! The gold detailing on post box must make it look nice. It is interesting how small historical facts like the change over time- ‘ER’ to ‘CR’. I had no idea that post boxes were originally green. I think I have seen few at some countryside in india and wondered if colours have meanings. Perhaps , British introduced the idea in all their colonies. Red ones are definitely hard to miss. I have seen whit post boxes while I was in Middle East. It is something to wonder as simple as colour having such impact. Atleast it does in many things we do and look. Well, enjoy your time!
