A cushion cover in the making perhaps

I’ve spoken about helping my sister-in-law tidy up her junk room. She had a great many unfinished patchwork and sewing projects languishing in plastic tubs. It’s hard to just throw away stuff you’ve been looking forward to doing. And the charity shop where she volunteers is quite fussy about what they accept. They don’t take material or wool so she wasn’t too sure what she could do with the pieces she was willing to part with. I mentioned that there were several craft and sewing groups in my village, and suggested I offer any excess materials and haberdashery to them. Once she knew she didn’t have to just throw them out, she was able to fill two tubs with bits and pieces. The photo shows a piece of material that she had thought she’d turn into cushion covers. Hopefully someone else will be happy to do something with the material. In the photo, it looks like it's stained but it's not really.

Looks like a tea towel (dish towel). It'd be cute in a "country" kitchen.

She was going to make a cushion for her patio chair. It's certainly shouts 'country'.

Glad you know someone who might use it. That feels better than throwing it away

It's almost a bag material. Very sturdy.

I'm sure your sewing group will find something creative to do with all the stuff your SIL is willing to donate to them. Being a crafter I know how hard it is to part with all the crafting stuff and unfinished projects.

She just has so much of it. She is 82 now and can't possibly finish all these projects. And she goes out a lot so doesn't get a lot of spare time for sewing.

I really need to get my stuff organized. I could use help. I used to think that I had help but it turns out that I don't. My husband tries but I'm weird. It's nice that you could help her go through everything. I hope she figures out what to do with the pieces that she kept.

Once we worked out who might be able to use them, she was much happier about it all.

I find it easier to part with things when I know they will still be used by someone else too.

It's totally different to just having to toss stuff in the rubbish.

It's so nice that you are making the effort to help her, and to find outlets for things she no longer wants or needs. In the thrift shop here that I go to, they have a little section for crafts, and another few big shelves for fabrics for sewing and fabric notions, like buttons, patterns, zippers. The fabrics are mostly new, and nice. I think people buy them and then never sew anything with them so they get donated. They always have a lot of yarn, too.

My friend who quilts has a cupboard with dozens of compartments for all her fabric. I doubt she'll ever get through them all.

@JudyEv I have a little fabric stash, for my blankets I make, but it's not large. Some people who sew have a ton of fabrics stashed away.
