Kim Doggett who is a resident of Gretna Nebraska purchased a cake from a Costco store as she placed the cake in her back yard on Tuesday February 11. Kim was amazed that a female opossum managed to eat the entire cake which made the animal sick. Kim contacted the local Humane Society to inform them about the opossum eating the entire cake. The opossum was taken to a local animal hospital where the animal is being treated of lead in her system with activated charcoal to neutralize the illness. The opossum is expected to make a full recovery and released in a few weeks to her home. Lesson to be learned is that when an animal sees food in a table or floor, they will eat the meal since they are hungry. Link is upi.com/4611739382611 via @upi

It seems that only us, human beings, can eat awful foods without dying immediatly. I don´t understand why people leave food for us near animals.

That is a good question why humans will leave food for animals to eat.

I feel sorry for that opossum. The ones that come at night for my leftovers get potatoes, some sausage, and bread.

That is true since animals are known for eating leftovers of food.

I'd be pretty annoyed if an animal ate my cake but I'm glad the opossum will be okay.

That is true since i would be upset if an animal ate my food that I left on a table as well. I also hope that the opossum will make a full recovery,

This seems to be a bit of a foolhardy action, to feed a wild animal a chocolate cake, like that. Most animals are unable to eat the processed junk foods eaten by humans. Cakes contain enough processed ingredients that cannot be metabolized by opossum's digestive tracts. Feeding an opossum cake usually is its last meal, as it does not often recover from doing this. At least, the lady, got help for the poor opossum, and it appears that it will be ok, in this instance.
