I am part Irish and I enjoy St. Patrick's Day and eating corned beef and cabbage. I also enjoy reading about how this holiday is celebrated in different locales. I am always looking for interesting facts regarding it and here are a few I found:
* This holiday is not only a cultural and religious day but also commemorates the patron saint of Ireland, St. Patrick.
* The color green being worn on St. Patrick's Day became a tradition in the 1600s and 1700s, but historians say that St. Patrick's color was actually blue.
* Until 1970 St. Patrick's Day was considered a religious holiday in Ireland and ll the pubs were closed.
* In 2018 Americans were estimated to have spent $5.9 Billion in celebration. In the year 2023, the estimate was up to $6.85 Billion.
* There are actually more Irish people in America(39.6 million) than in Ireland(6.3 million).
* St. Patrick is said to have used the shamrock to explain the Holy Trinity but later they were known to symbolize hope, love, and faith.
The picture is from my collection.

I heard about it being Irish but didn't know much about it. Around here in Kenya there are several respected schools named St. Patrick. I I am not sure though if the day is associated with Patrician Brothers Society
