Sugar drops - a memory

My mother was good in making sugar drops She knew the syrup consistency - normally 3 strings. She had to quickly divide the stuff in several parts and colour them. Lemon juice would be added to the syrup and spoon out a little bit of it in water. It would instantly cool. She would then pick up the drops when completely and roll them in sugar. They were extremely sticky and if one bit them the teeth would stick together and that meant time to undo the damage. But they were good to chew
