A Little Bit About Latvia

United States
July 18, 2025 6:00am CST
Actually another myLotter is from there and could tell you first-hand, but I'll explain why I'm posting about Latvia. I'm going to be there in 28 days and while I'm on the road traveling I can sometimes post short things with photos showing where I am but I don't get to type in depth giving important information about the place I'm at. So I'm going to post this time in advance. Latvia is in the Baltic Region of Europe. It's capital is Riga, which is where I'll be staying. Latvia is just shy of a 25,000 sq mi land area and has a population of approximately 1.8 million. I read this online, "Latvia has the fifth highest proportion of land covered by forests in the European Union." So naturally, Latvia is part of the European Union and their currency is the Euro. I found it interesting that 45% of children are born to unwed mothers in Latvia. The life expectancy there is about 68 for men and 78 for women, which is kind of low if you think about it, and Latvia has the lowest male-to-female ratio in the world. Ethnically, 65% of the population there is Latvian, followed by 24% Russian, then Belarus and others. Latvia has its own language (Latvian). Ice hockey and basketball are the two most popular sports in Latvia. There's really so much I could talk about their culture and history and religion, et al but I'll stop here for now. Have you ever been to Latvia?

No it is too far for us and usually it is not the destination of choice for Singaporeans.

Never been, but like so many places around the world, I am sure it is an interesting place to visit. Maybe one day, like you, I will travel the world. It would be fun, no doubt.

Just now
I've never been there but enjoyed the post. I'm a little shocked about the percentage of unwed mothers.
