If one can hold a mug without a saucer I do not see why one cannot hold a tea cup without that saucer Before we switched over to mugs we had loads of teacups that had saucers that we used. Many have broken but the saucers are languishing in the cupboard I use those saucers while eating food may be placing salad, pickle or even a papad What's your story?

All my coffee cups have a saucer, where you place the little spoon so that your guest (and yourself) can add the sugar you like, turn the coffee and place the spoon back on the saucer.

It used to be that way before. But now we ask the guests how much sugar, mix it nd give it to them . Easy. That was the time we had our tea set in great use too

@allknowing - This is something I never do. I put the sugar and a small jug with dairy cream on the table and guests add what they like.

Love that! You’re giving those saucers a second life—very resourceful. ?? We don’t really use saucers anymore for practical reasons, though they do look nice when presented to guests. Holding a teacup without one just makes sense day-to-day. And it’s great that the saucers aren’t going to waste—salad, pickle, papad, they’re holding their own at the table now!

Mugs have no saucers but tea cups normally go with saucers.

Last year I started using a teacup and saucer for my tea. It was one of my uncle's that he had. I don't think he even used them. I broke the handle of the one I had been using a few days ago, but I still use the tea cup.

I have about five cups and saucers but I never use them. They're too pretty to donate.

The saucers were really about two things. It served as a way to not leave a ring on your table AND it was a place to rest a spoon. I have never used one. I don't put anything in my coffee, and I don't drink tea, and a coaster is where my mug sits.
