Questions About Amazon

Amazon has been around since 1995. I used to be quite a avid reader and bought my books from them. Today they are a big company and have about 5.6 million employees worldwide. They deliver between 20 and 25 million packages each day with 1.6 million in the U S alone. Amazon surpassed both UPS and FedEx in 2023 delivering about 5.9 billion packages surpassing their previous year by 13%.
But, over the last few years I have read about several aspects of Amazon's operation that have made me stop using their service entirely. I probably have not used them for at least the last five years. Here is what I have found:
Amazon's treatment of their employees is deplorable, employee corruption, tax and subsidy deals, concerns about how they use customer data, counterfeiting products, low-quality products, and the Department of Justice has prosecuted cases where employees and contractors were bribed to manipulate the Amazon marketplace, using its market dominance to stifle competition.
I have experienced them buying out small businesses that I used to use and that companies products were changed and not for the better.
I don't see how people can use a company that is so corrupt. Sure it is easy and you can get a good deal but, is the product you are getting really any good? I'd rather pay a few dollars more and be assured I am both getting a good product and that the company I use is not corrupt. I have not had to use Amazon for any of my deliveries in years so I know it can be done.
What are your thoughts on Amazon and its dealings?

I see. We haven't in several years. I'm even trying to get away from Walmart but do occasionally.

@celticeagle I order my groceries online from Walmart; and then cousin #2 picks them up on Mondays.

I use the Kindle app and the Kindle Cloud for free eBook storage and for storage of personal papers... I also download free ebooks from them. I don't buy anything from Amazon.

Good. I don't use any storage places. I have a thumb usb thingy for pictures and one huge one for my documents. I don't trust the storage places.

@celticeagle I have several 8 TB drives as well as a handful of 64 GB thumb drives but my eBooks and personal documents are safe enough on Amazon's cloud storage... I can't access my eBooks if they're only on storage drives unless I plug them into my laptop and I want to read the books on my phone or tablet. (Personal documents in this case means eBooks I've gotten from sites other than Amazon. Why Amazon calls those "personal documents", I'll never know but they don't charge me for the storage space those use on their cloud.

It's far too easy for me to shop from Amazon. Or even Walmart- just yesterday I bought a plastic 4 drawer set from Wallies on line and by that afternoon it sat in my front porch. They didn't even box it. Hubby needed something to organize his stuff in his upstairs room.

@celticeagle Exactly. I have a little car. I loved not having to try to stuff the dresser into the back seat. That would have been horrible.
