wild weather

Whoa on the weather last night. Folks braved the wind and blasting rain anyway. To quote Garfield: " candy! candy! candy!" There were more teens- one had a backpack. One little tyke tried to take my little vintage plastic Jack O Lantern bucket. Other small boys snagged two and three bags of Oreo cookies. The honey store man downtown handed out a potato or a honey stick to kids, He says he gave away 60 pounds of potatoes in 2 hours. A friend of mine in another town gave out bananas. She said that she gave over 100 to kids. Bye bye Samhain/ Halloween. See you next year!

It was a really nice night last night here for trick or treating, but I haven’t gotten to ask my dad if they had many kids stop by. When I lived there, I handed out the candy. One year, I thought the last kid had come, so I emptied the few pieces left into a kid’s bag. All of a sudden a little guy darts up the porch, and I had nothing. So I gave him a five dollar bill. He was so excited!

@AmbiePam. I love your story. You were generous and I am sure now part of that kid's family story.

Weather won't stop the trick or treaters I guess . These days the way things are going, oh those potatoes and bananas would be greatly appreciated. I saw something that said to give out "food" items to trick or treaters if you can.

@much2say This reminds me when daughter was just born. Folks asked what we wanted or needed and we told them the truth: food and diapers. Skip the toys. Food and diapers.

Wow, I guess the mom's would have appreciated the potatoes. Not sure how thrilled I would have been with a potato as a kid.

@snowy22315 Me either. This business of losing SNAP is really hitting home to many people.

I think of giving potatoes and bananas is a grat idea, Our weather has cooled down a lot and it goes down into the 50s at night now,

No kiddos came here as usual. I don't know how I would feel about a potato unless it was baked. lol
