I know that The Mister will want to go out soon for something to eat…..and we haven’t got any potatoes in anyway ….but ….
I really fancy a jacket potato…..cooked for a long time, in the oven, so that the skin is good and crispy, then lots of butter added and plenty of grated cheese …..then some more grated cheese !
That’s what I would really like for tonight’s tea……
Do you eat jacket potatoes ?
What filling do you like ?

I love a good baked potato. With the kidney disease, I can no longer eat the skins.

@porwest I don't know. Potassium maybe? I can't have a lot of potassium. Just checked. They are rich in potassium.

You just eat the skin with toppings, or the entire baked potato with toppings? There used to be a restaurant called The Black Eyed Pe that made crispy, yummy potato skins. They put cheese, sour cream, and bacon on them. I never liked butter on them for some reason.

Some restaurants will sell ‘ potato skins ‘ which are mainly just the skin with very little filling.
I cut the potato in half length ways. Spoon out the potato and mix with the butter and cheese. Sometimes returning the mixture to the potato skin, and placing it under the grill. I love the crispy skin, which I leave til the end to eat on its own.

Pretty eats a lot of baked potatoes with sour cream, butter and cheese. I CAN eat them but usually prefer my potatoes mashed or as fries.
When I was a teenager, one of my favorite things was to stop at a store on the weekend and get a fully-loaded baked potato. It had ham, butter, cheese, sour cream and bacon sprinkled over the top. One potato was enough for two or three meals or for two people to share one.
I haven't seen any made like that in years and really do miss them.

@Traceyjayne They were fattening but really delicious! I used to take one home and offer mom half of it.

@porwest we would wrap in foil if it was going on the bbq.
I think …..in the Uk ….the jacket is the skin.

@Traceyjayne I was sure it was the same thing based on your description. I mean, it IS common to wrap the potato in aluminum foil when baking it. Maybe that's where the "jacket" part comes into play?

I like it a lot. I like butter, sour cream and salt and pepper as fillings. Sometimes melted cheese is good as a filling.

@traceyjayne What you describe is pure joy but since I’m cutting back on dairy I go for chilli con carne as a filling.
