I realize this may irritate anti-SNAP people, but I thought it was such a kind gesture. A mom and pop pizzeria in Oklahoma City was giving away pizzas for four hours yesterday for those who weren’t getting SNAP benefits (all they had to do was show their SNAP card). You could receive a large, one topping pizza per household. I also realize there will be those who judge them for accepting a pizza, traditionally unhealthy. While I get my laughter under control I will remind them pizza over no food is the better option. (No, I didn’t take any.) Have you seen any businesses reaching out to help people right now?

And it is always the so-called Christians who rant against assistance

Well, you know, "I was hungry and you didn't give Me food....Lord, when did we see You hungry and not feed You? As often as you have done it to the least of these, you've done it to Me" doesn't apply to them. I've told you about Russell Moore, former head of the Southern Baptist Convention, who LEFT the SBC because the "the Bible is literal and eternal" people were saying The Sermon on the Mount was "liberal" and "woke."

There are a lot of people and businesses that are doing extra to help...Bless them, and in the case of a business I am sure the publicity doesn't hurt.

I hope they get a lot of business from it; they deserve it.

Pizza is not unhealthy if you avoid to put on it unhealthy ingredients and (as you say) better something not really healthy than no food.

@LadyDuck Oh, I hate pizza smothered in cheese. I’m sure five year olds find it tasty, but not me.

@AmbiePam - NO, you know that I am Italian, if I have a pizza it must be an Italian pizza, not covered with pounds of cheese.

It's only those with enough money for their needs who say money isn't everything. They're right in a way but only if you have food and a roof over your head.

I have seen many people step up this past week.It was on our news, One Mom and Pop sandwich shop did the same as your pizza place, gave sandwiches away to SNAP card holders here. Several food trucks pitched in and did the same. I have also seen several pop-up little food pantries set up here and there. People sharing. It does the heart good to see this. I made a batch of soup and took it to a family who is without food, with some bread and cheese. That was all I could do right now. Did such a small gesture make a difference? It did--to them. As you said, it might not be the healthiest option, but it's food, and way better than NO food. Yes, there seems to be people here who are against helping others in need. That's not how my mind works. Do I have a lot? No, I don't. But if we all could share a bit when needed, it would make a difference.

Many places are collecting here for the food bank, including at the school sporting events. In our little town of fewer than four hundred one of the three remaining churches has started a food pantry. Grocery stores have baskets full of donations. It is always good to think about the buy one free offers and donate the free one to someone in need.

One topping? Besides the tomato sauce and cheese? What's unhealthy about pizza? Tomatoes contain lycopene, which has been linked to improved heart health, sunburn prevention, and protection against certain cancers. Cheese would provide calcium, which contributes to the maintenance of normal bones & teeth, not to mention protein, which is important for cell function, tissue structure, and body regulation.

I was using sarcasm about pizza being unhealthy in reference to an ignorant post previously written. I love an all veggie pizza when the veggies are fresh. Delicious! Yes, one topping besides cheese and sauce.

On our local news, they do highlight businesses across L.A. who help the community in a time of need. How wonderful when there are folks/businesses that step up to the plate to help their humankind.

I was mortified that my church doesn't have a dedicated food donation fund!! (But they do have a gymnasium that's bigger than most churches in town. ) A number of restaurants have offered free lunches for people on SNAP or elderly individuals.

I think that it is a beautiful gesture. Some truly are going hungry. I agree that a pizza beats having hunger pains .

I applaud any business that is willing to offer food for those with SNAP benefits. It's so sad that people aren't receiving their benefits.

No, I haven't seen/heard about any businesses here doing anything nice for anybody... But I also don't know how any of the businesses here could reach out to tall people they would offer free food or other supplies they might need. We don't have a television that picks up regular channels and don't have a radio in the house.

That was a nice gesture. I haven't heard of any businesses giving away food. Maybe if I still subscribed to the newspaper I would read about it.
