It's Time To Get Funky, Funky, Funky - Part One

I ran into @FourWalls at her favorite restaurant two days ago after hubby had just taken that nasty fall. I asked her what constituted "Boogie" music, which is her current countdown because one of her first one sounded like "Funk" to me. She explained it really well and then I asked her if she had ever done a "Funk" countdown, which she said she hasn't and then I asked her if she would do one and I THINK she said no because she doesn't care for funk. I was in a "funk" about hubby's falling so I might have misheard her. Well I happen to like funk music, so I thought I'd do a little tribute to it myself. These won't be nearly as educational and informative as @FourWalls music posts because she's the Queen of Music, but it'll be silly and fun. So we're kicking off with a funny one - "Play That Funky Music" by Wild Cherry. Now you probably already know that Funk music has primarily been a genre by African American musicians. Wild Cherry is a white rock band. So what gives? Well, one night Wild Cherry was playing in a club and an African American in the crowd shouted out to one of the musicians, "Play that funky music, white boy." And it turned into a song.

This seems unfair. So, she can barrage us with stuff we don't like but she can't do a series on a style SHE doesn't like? Hmm. lol

Yeah, they did a follow up song (“Baby Don’t You Know”) pointing out that they were white. Fun fact: Donnie Iris, who wrote the Jaggerz’ hit “The Rapper” and later had a hit with “Love Is Like a Rock,” was a member of Wild Cherry after these were hits. Here’s “Baby Don’t You Know” (“black? No! White? Right!” )
