Interesting About Dehydration

I read an interesting article recently about why we may remain dehydrated even when we feel we are drinking enough water.
Deep in the brain is a control center called the hypothalamus and among its many jobs is to signal us when our body needs water. As we age that signal fades. Some medications and health conditions can also affect thirst signals.
Our body may desperately need water, but we don't feel thirsty. When you are dehydrated your brain shrinks and this makes it harder for brain cells to communicate. If you drink water, it may pass right through you.
A compound NASA scientists found holds water like a sponge. It is called glycerol and you can find tiny amounts in foods like meat, ice cream, milk and baked goods in your body. The body also naturally makes some when it breaks down fat for energy.
The glycerol helps the body keep more water and uses it more effectively. Using it along with sodium does this: sodium pulls water in and glycerol holds it in place.
This compound can be found in OTC supplement or liquid forms at your pharmacy.

It is so important. I've nicknamed myself the water nag. I just keep going on about water intake and dehydration.

@celticeagle I just wish my hubby was still here. He would fill my water jug occasionally for me. I would drink more water if I didn't have to hobble to the kitchen.

There is a big difference between 'liquids' and water. Though iced tea, pop and lemonade do have some water in them they are not a replacement for it.

@celticeagle well I cannot drink water all day so what it is it is. If I drop you just won't hear from me, As you see I am tired of having to follow any routine I do what I do and things jsut kind of work out.
