That Spare Key

Many of us have a spare key that we have hidden around outside our home incase we need it. It's a must have in emergency situations. But with the onset of robberies and unscrupulous people coming into even the most secure of areas we may need to think again about the old tried and true places we have been hiding this key. Instead of the usual under a rock, up on a door frame or under the door mat here are a few different ideas: * Leave one with a trusted neighbor. * Use a magnetic key box leave in an outdoor light that may or may not still be functioning. * Under patio furniture. * In a shoe (some keep shoes outside to change into) * In a bird house around your yard. How's that for some new ideas? Please don't tell us which you like best okay?

I like your ideas of placing a spare key outside of a home like the use of patio furniture,

The fake rock is a huge no no anymore for sure. We used to have one in the freezer for the kids if we were not home

When I lived in the forest in Oregon, I kept one on the other side of the transformer box near the mini house and up at the main house, there were so many granite rocks in the flower bed, so we put a key mixed in. With ring cameras, we would be notified if someone showed up the long steep drive way. Now, in the forest in WA, we have code locks. We discussed putting a backup key in case we need someone to come in and maybe under the birdbath. Thieves will look at normal places like planters, doors, etc. We have so many cameras here all over the property, we know when anyone shows up.

Code locks are a good idea. And cameras have really changes things for thieves.

We have a key box attached to an outside wall. You need a code to open it. I think most of those places still aren't very secure but I'd go for hiding one in an outside light.

Codes are a great way to keep the bad guys away.
