I just watched a movie that was based on a time when women did not have rights like we do now. The woman in the drama had to deal with her Father dying. He left a huge estate and money. His brother moved in with his son and since they were male, emotionally ran her over. They almost got away with calling her a "hysteric" and almost had her put into a mental hospital. The cure?? Literally tons of cold water poured onto her from above AND there was a viewing platform if the males cared to watch. AHEM.
Hubby is blind partially due to doctors not understanding totally what was safe. He was one of thousands of premature babies being put into an incubator that had too much oxygen. That messed with his sight big time.
My Mother reported to me that a mammogram hurts like you don't want to know about. That put me off from having the test done. I just found out that the expensive machines we modern people deal with are kinder. Thank God. And nobody is allowed to toss we women into horrid places just cause.

Don’t know if you know this or not, but “hysterical” comes from the same Greek root word as hysterectomy, meaning it’s related to the uterus, and, by extension, women.

I actually did know this. I had to have a full hysterectomy at 30. I was scared as I had a large uterine tumor. Anyway, I did my homework on getting a hysterectomy and discovered the connection to “hysterical!”

Glad we don't have to deal with that kind of stuff anymore. But some want to go back to those times
