I Knew Way Too Much

I knew that she was being evicted by her landlord and that she was having "encounters" with him. "He come knockn' at 6AM!" Probably looking for rent or something, who knows?
I knew that she wanted to call the police on him the next time he was in "her" yard on on "her" property.
I knew that she was having none of his antics. "I'm gonna sue him...I'm going to own him," she proclaimed. I knew that according to her "this guy" was literally "out his effing mind!"
I knew that she sleeps with a gun on her pillow and she was considering shooting him dead and that she didn't care if there were consequences. I knew about her thoughts on jail. I knew her thoughts on the unfairness of it all. I knew more than I ever should have known.
All I did to know all this was pull up alongside pump 7 and walk into the store with my cash in hand to prepay the pump. I just wanted my pump started. But she had a story to tell to the woman at the counter ahead of me.
Did she notice while she was telling her tale I was there? Looking at my cash, then checking out the treats in the aisles, looking up at how much the lottery jackpots were worth, looking back at my cash, taking a second and third scan of the store, double checking it was actually pump 7 as I craned my neck forward to glance out of the glass windows and doors?
Nope.
Did she tell the woman ahead of me, "Let me take care of this customer real quick?"
Nope.
Was she doing her job?
Nope.
"What can I get you, hon?" she finally got to ask when her story was over, and I got to move ahead in the line. "Just X amount on pump 7, please," I said and smiled. "Have a great rest of your day," she told me as I stepped toward the door to finally get my gas.
In my mind, I thought to myself, "Thanks. I'll enjoy what's left of it."

Yes. This happened yesterday when I stopped on my way home to get gas. I think she's one of those people are who are more hot air than real. I have found the most dangerous people are the ones you don't suspect are dangerous.
How many times do we hear the serial killers were just quiet, nice guys who kept to themselves? lol

Quite a yarn you got to hear at the gas station. My cat likes to overhang his paws like that too

People are generally oblivious to everything around them because they're only focused on themselves.
