While tomorrow will be the birthday of another favorite singer of mine (Boz Scaggs), this month is celebrating Sir Paul. McCartney will be 84 (Boz will only be 82, what a child ), and this month looks at favorite songs of mine throughout his career. Here’s today’s song, which you probably haven’t ever heard (to the shame of American radio stations). Fine Line (Paul) There’s nothing quite as good as philosophy that you can rock out to. That’s what Paul delivers here in a song from one of the numerous good albums he’s made since the turn of the millennium. (And, of course, American FM rock stations wouldn’t play it because they hadn’t played “Uncle Albert/Admiral Halsey” for the 100th time that week. ) Paul played the instruments, as you see in the video (yes, including drums: he did all the drumming on Band on the Run). After he gives you music to move your feet to, he starts giving you lyrics to make the young people think. I’m sure a little of this song about choosing wisely (like that line in Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade said) had to do with the mistake that Paul had made earlier, marrying Heather Mills (despite even his kids warning him it was wrong). But it’s good advice for everyone. The only problem is that we don’t realize which choice is good until after the fact. The song doesn’t help with that. Fine Line Written by Paul McCartney Recorded by Paul McCartney From Chaos and Creation in the Backyard (Paul), 2005 Your decision makes a difference:

He learned mandolin and played it on Memory Almost Full. I don’t know if he can play “orchestra” instruments like violins or flutes.

@rebelann — oh, yeah, he can play ukulele. There’s video online of him playing “Something” on it in tribute to George.

Yes he is! I listened to his new album last night, some sweet smoky blues-jazz on it.

In a way, vaguely familiar, so I must have heard it at some point. I enjoyed it, and I like the lyrics, too.

@FourWalls I thought so! Lyrics of a song are more important to me than they are to some people.

I’ll understand if you ignore me for the rest of the month. You have to protect your gastrointestinal health.

You’d think with his wealth, he could afford some other musicians to help out here! Yes, marrying Heather Mills was a big mistake. What was he thinking? We all make mistakes, so I hope he sings this for all of us.

I remember a line in a TV show… “Free advice is rarely good.” “And good advice is rarely taken.”

It’s a shame how his music, pretty much after the duet with Michael Jackson (“Say Say Say”), has been ignored in popular circles (playing on radio or showing the videos). He’s made some terrific music since the 1990s, and most people have to buy the album to hear it because radio stations haven’t played any of it.
