Belfast’s burning again.

Yesterday a Belfast man was savagely assaulted by a Sudanese immigrant who has since been arrested and charged. The victim is now seriously ill in hospital. Today the stalwart citizenry of East Belfast have responded by blocking roads and burning buses. What the man did was awful in the extreme, but the burning the buses of Belfast won’t affect him - he’s in jail. The people who are being punished are the people of Belfast. They will have to get to work by some other means of transport tomorrow, though I strongly suspect that most of the rioters don’t go to work and never have. However logic isn’t the forte of the rabble being manipulated by people with a racist agenda who exploit the hot-headedness of those of limited intelligence who are itching for a riot. If you need to riot then you need to riot. But at least now Unionists and Nationalists have something in common to bring them together.

As you say, rioting and looting are no help at all to the victim.

Just now
I agree with you that destruction of property via riots is not the answer to solve these problems.

Belfast has such a tumultuous history of violence

Since the man has been arrested, the riot is unnecessary
