I am looking for information on establishing an elementary cheerleading program. Any information would be helpful

Good for you!! Nothing gets kids excited about school, and fostering pride in their school, like having cheerleaders for all their events. I did a lot with my kids elementary schools when they were in them, so I hope what little advice I have can help you some...
First, if there is any team sports already in place, I would talk to the gym teacher, or whoever's their coach. Once you've sold them on it, and got their input, I'd ask them to go and talk to the principal with you about it. Think of all the ways having cheerleaders would 'help' the school. A few that came to mind for me was: pride in their school, a pep squad to help with any assemblies, school pride, community pride (you know, attending community functions, and bringing the school spirit to the community.) I'm sure you can come up with a lot more than I can:-) If you have a local high-school with a pep squad, their advisor might be willing and able to help you with your quest too, or at least help you with the correct way to go about it.
If you have a school newspaper, or anything that gets the word out, you might ask for interested parents who would like to help you with it. Sometimes there are parents who were cheerleaders somewhere in their life who are familiar with different cheers and such. In lieu of a few helpful parents, maybe your town has a dance class that would love to get their name out there as a sponsor (and would, or could, be willing to help with routines.)
I'm thinking it needn't be expensive to come up with a cheerleading outfit. If you incorporate the schools colors into it, it could be used in their tights and tops, with maybe a simple skirt to go with it. Ornamentation (sequin strands, or whatever) can be added by some crafty mom who'd be willing to help.
Lastly, if you do do this (in my humble opinion) I think it's important to let the girls know that it is a priviledge to be a cheerleader, and that their job as one is to be friendly to everyone in the school and not feel that they are 'above' the others who were not chosen. They are the guardians of their school spirit, and besides cheering their team on, that they bring the school and their schoolmates together (I think you know what I'm trying to say, lol!) Good luck!! Go team!!
