As long as you can understand the gist of what is being said and you can see a reasonable effort has been made to communicate, why do people make such a big fuss over grammar and/or spelling?
Live journal even has an entire community dedicated to Grammar Nazis.
(If you aren't sure what a Grammar Nazi is, then see the Queen of Wands comic strip http://www.queenofwands.net/d/20020925.html )

some people really don't know how to write and speak English properly but they are trying to communicate as much as they can to express their thoughts and idea on a certain topic, some people don't know how to speak or write English actually but they are trying learn from experience and so we encounter few grammatical error or spelling, any way nobody is perfect here.

I think the new spell checker helps quite a bit. Now 90% of the folks here are easier to understand. The other 10% though, I have no CLUE what they are trying to communicate.

says the man who can't spell grammar (from a chick who can't spell it unless he uses a dictionary) :-)

Typos and little spelling mistakes don't really bug me all that much, it's when I have to sit and read something slowly and carefully to understand what someone is trying to say. I read things how they are and if the grammar is awful and the spelling is bad, it... I don't know. It kinda makes it harder to read for me. I don't want to sit and "translate" what someone is trying to say.

Agreed. Most of the time spelling and grammar issues can be easily overlooked. It's when it becomes a whole different language because the mistakes have gotten so bad or been purposeful, that is becomes a real problem.
I'm waiting for someone to correct 1337 speak.

Because people who can't spell or use a language correctly are less likely to get hired. Communicating effectively is one of the most important parts of any job.
Yes, it doesn't matter if someone misspells words, etc. on Mylot, but if I was hiring someone for a job and got a resume or cover letter with spelling or grammar mistakes, I wouldn't even consider hiring that person.
If they can't bother to look up words in a dictionary on such an important document, why should I think they'll be any more careful on the job?

Actually, I do hiring for a company and I have the same rule for reviewing resumes.
What I was referring to here was more of a situation where folks are correcting people's journals and forum entries.

I wonder if it is their way of making themselves feel better. "If what we are good at is important, then it makes us more important." ??

I tend to not let the grammar and spelling mistakes get me upset. Besides the fact that typos are common, especially when you are trying to type out your thoughts fast, we have to consider that this is an International forum. There are users here who are just beginning to speak and communicate in English, and I think that their efforts are commendable. In the 6 weeks or so that I have been here, I have seen several foreign users whose English has noticeably improved, so this has got to be a good learning experience for them. We also have users from a variety of educational backgrounds here. We can't expect someone who has not completed their secondary education to communicate as effectively as someone with a Master's Degree, can we? I am going to check out the Grammar Nazi site that you posted; it sounds like it would be a bunch of high-strung, obnoxious people! This should be a fun and informative place for all of us, regardless of our writing skills.
