They're not, although many like to drink at celebrations, to aid the atmosphere and such. I avoid drinking, although it seems near impossible to do at most celebrations, everybody usually tries to 'break' you down like it's challenge. Learned from a guy I was speaking to at a wedding the best thing you can is say you've got some kind of 'illness' that prevents you from drinking, bingo! Everyone ignores you then.
