dark television

Hi
I have a haier model htf27r11 television. The picture on it is great until you play a dvd and then it get's so dark you can't even see it. Any suggestions? Thanks!!

Is this a new DVD player? Sometimes the cables that hook the DVD player to the tv can be incorrect. If it is a newr tv you may have to upgrade the cables....check the settings on the player as the contrast and brightness controls on the dvd settings may have been tampered with. Is the movie an original copy or is it a burned copy, this may affect the quality as well.
A few things to check....sorry I cannot be of more help.
