Wireless internet capability sounds so very cool! Can anyone explain to me exactly how it works?

What you need to create a wireless network is a wireless router. This is a small box containing a modem that you plug into the telephone socket just as you would with a basic modem.
It used to be necessary to have a wireless attachment for the laptop or computer, but nowadays a lot of new laptops have the ability integrated into the system. The computer simply connects to the router via a set transmission range, just the same as your radio will receive signals without wires.
The distance at which you can receive a signal varies, but even an older system like the one that I set up many years ago should cover the whole house quite easily.

I am not too sure how it works estherlou but a few months ago we went on an extended trip to Western Australia and one of the men in the convoy had a laptop. He just plugged it in at an internet cafe and could access his emails etc. Our son is probably returning overseas again in the middle of next year, and he is talking about getting one before he goes, so he can do the same. Says that it will be more convenient than going to an internet cafe. :)

I don't know much about it, but I think you get to take some cable with you that you can pluck into a wall that has internet connection.
