What is Maine like?

I have always wanted to visit Maine. I am not much of a traveler, and have stayed mostly in the South for all my traveling because that is where I live and I tend not to venture to far away from home. I have been as far as New Mexico. I would love to go to see Maine and maybe Delaware one day. I have no interest in going to New York and I know that sounds dumb because most people do. I just am not a big city type person. Guess because I am from a small town. Is Maine really as pretty as all the pictures you see? I would like to go in the summertime because I dont like it when it's too cold. We dont see much snow in these parts!
