Lots of animals have dental problems. A friend of mine had an older dog whos teeth started falling out. I know of some rabbits with teeth that grow so large so fast they have to be filed at the vet. Animals need preventative care for their teeth too!

I think we all equally share this problem. If you eat, you will eventually have some kind of dental problem. So with animals, I would think they too would get dental caries and what not due to thier diet. I'm sure they don't get everything from nature. I've also seen some pictures of deer teeth that were yellowing, they did not look all too healthy. I think we all will face problems with our teeth.

Yes....due to the diet systems of human beings and animals, everything changes....i also do agree for this.Human beings are not used to taking raw foods like animals and the thing you told about deer may not be dental decaying problem for sure as i haven't heard anything of that sort
Anyhow, thanks for responding

Yes....in a way it is right....but, the real problems of human beings getting more of dental problems is that they prefer taking cooked food and animals take raw food instead...isn't it? more over some animals have also rough tongues which they can use to clean their teeth....isn't it?

I have two cats and two rabbits.
CATS - the most common medical problem cats have is problems with their teeth. Any vet will tell you that dry food is best for them, as it brushes their teeth, helps keep them strong, and other benefits.
RABBITS - bunnies are pretty new to the whole domestication thing. As they are the on the bottom of the food chain, as a species they aren't expected to live past two years. Now, with proper care, they can live up to 10 years.
This means that evolution hasn't caught up with them yet. Their bodies haven't developed strategies for dealing with medical problems that come from living so long.
Rabbit teeth constantly grow, and it's vital that they have things to chew in order to keep their teeth at a working length. Think filing fingernails so you can type properly. However, once a rabbit gets past the one year mark, they can develop spurs on their teeth. This is extra enamel that builds up on either side of a tooth, and can cut painfully into their gums. If a vet doesn't shave these spurs off yearly, they can grow so long that the bunny can't eat for the pain.
The cost for such a procedure is $200-400, and has to be done annually. And unfortunately, there is no such thing as bunny insurance since they are so new to the domestic animal world.

Dog getting braces...is it? oh...i didn't know this...if it is true, then it might be the case of pet dog, getting used to the same eating habbit like human beings or we can put it this way, a pet dog being fead with our food....isn't it?
Anyhow, thanks for responding

A friend of mine is a dentist who did a research project on people in forest areas. According to him, even the oldest person in tribal area had the strongest teeth. It is mainly because they use to have most of the food from nature, bite, crush through teeth and teeth are real bright. Needless to say they never used the tooth paste. Similar thing to animals
