Is there any standard design standards to be followed for a marketing website? Is it helpful if we use the free templates available on internet?

A template for a website is just that a template. As for marketing your website it really has nothing to do with your design. Yes there ate meta tags and other seo tricks you can use but again that has nothing to do with your design. personally I would suggest staying away from templates as it makes your site (if running a business) look cheap as most people know its a template. DreamWeaver has its share of issues with certain browsers and dont always use the proper tags it should in html. Alot of people think its great to have free software, free templates, free images to use to build a site. In thelong run if you are trying to build a site that will be done proper and especially if its a site for making money then you are best to hire a professional to build it. As far as standards - some people will tell you tehy live by web2.0 or w3c websites, I personally will dis-agree with this but I also have build thousands of websites. The best thing for you is to use your own good judgement and learn as you go.
