Deep Space 1 was launched from Cape Canaveral on October 24, 1998. During a highly successful primary mission, it tested 12 advanced, high-risk technologies in space. In an extremely successful extended mission, it encountered Comet Borrelly and returned the best images and other science data ever from a comet. During its fully successful hyperextended mission, it conducted further technology tests. The spacecraft was retired on December 18, 2001.

Thanks, but I hoped DS1 could be an example for other similar vehicles!

The primary mission of Deep Space 1 was dedicated to test its load of advanced, high risk technologies. Following the testing, Deep Space 1 conducted an encounter with an asteroid, explored comets. By July 13, 1999, it had met or exceeded all of its mission success criteria. Deep Space 1 was retired on December 18, 2001.
